چکیده

Abstract We calibrate the distorted wave Born approximation (DWBA) for electron impact excitation processes empirically. Differential cross sections (DCSs) for the excitation of the 2p53s, 2p53p, 2p54s and 2p54p configurations of Ne and the 3p54s and 3p54p configurations of Ar by electron impact are calculated using DWBA for incident energies between 20 and 100 eV. The calculated results are compared with the absolute experimental measurements and other theoretical results. We found that the structure of the DCS can be well reproduced by the DWBA model while the magnitude is overestimated for most cases considered here. The differences in magnitude between DWBA and experiment are used to test the calibration of DWBA such that the DWBA can be used to describe laser-induced electron impact excitation processes. These processes are involved in the non-sequential double ionization of atoms in strong laser fields.

Ab initio cross sections for the excitation of the b ' Z : state of H , by electron impact in the distorted - wave approximation ?

We present differential cross sections for the x 'Zg + b 3Zu transition in H, at 15 eV incident electron energy. The cross sections are computed in the distorted-wave approximation, using the random-phase approximation for the electronic transition density and a discrete basis set technique for obtaining the distorted waves. Our cross sections are found to be in good agreement with experimental...

Fast-electron scattering from Ne: A comparison of distorted-wave theory with experiment

We compare electron-scattering data from Ne with first-order Born and distorted-wave calculations in an energy range between 300 and 2500 eV and for scattering angles up to 135◦ and for energy losses up to the ionization energy. At small angles the distorted-wave calculations and first-order Born calculations are in good agreement, but at large momentum transfer the intensity predicted by the f...

Superelastic electron scattering within a magnetic angle changer: determination of the angular momentum transferred during electron excitation over all scattering angles.

By utilizing superelastic electron scattering from laser-excited atoms within a new magnetic angle changing device, the differential cross sections for excitation of atoms by electron impact over the complete scattering geometry are determined for the first time. In the experiments described here, these techniques are combined to reveal the angular momentum transferred to calcium atoms during e...

Electron impact ionization of H_2+

The electron impact ionization cross section of H2 is calculated using a distortedwave approximation. The calculated cross section is compared to the experimental results of Peart and Dolder. The simplicity of the system allows an assessment of the accuracy of the distorted-wave approximation without complications from inaccuracies in the target state, initial continuum state, or final continuu...

In the present work has been tried to do a generalized formalism of semi-classical method used in ion-atom impact. One of the current method to calculation of the differential and total cross section for ion-atom impact at high energy range is the first Born approximation because of the simplicity of its calculations, but not necessarily sufficiently accurate. In particular this approximation i...
